Belasitsa Bike Tour was held during the first weekend of June 2017. More than 250 bicycle enthusiasts from four Balkan countries joined the event, making it the sport event with the most participants in the region. The participants accepted the challenge and did a great job cycling around the beautiful Belasitsa. It was a memorable event with lots of sunshine, smiles, new friendships and beautiful views.
The event began Saturday morning in front of the building of the Municipality in Petrich with pre-start preparation and cheerful excitement. From there, the Tour took the road at the foot of the Mountain to the FYR Macedonia. At several locations along the route there were specially organized catering and information points where participants had the opportunity to rest and recharge with food and drink.
After the group reached Bansk (FYR Macedonia) some of the bikers returned to Petrich while most took the long and beautiful route over the main ridge of the Mountain to Lake Dojran.
The next day, the route led the participants next by two beautiful lakes - Dojran and Kerkini under the impressive steep southern slopes of Belasitsa and back to Petrich.
Besides seeing Belasitsa Mountains from all around and convinced of its beauty, the participants in the Bike Tour learned about the rich nature, cultural and historical heritage and the opportunities for tourism in the area.
At the final in Petrich the people parted with smiles and wishes for new meetings at the foot of the charming Belasitsa.
Belasitsa Bike Tour is organized in the frame of the project “Belasitsa the Mountain of the Active people” which is jointly implemented by Mountaineering and Ecology Club Edelvajs – Srumica and Club for extreme sports and mountaineering Bela Extreme – Petrich.
